Kalkan, once a tiny fishing village and home to Mediterranean pirates, is now a beautiful charismatic harbour town on the largely unspoilt Turquoise Coast of South-West Turkey. Kalkan lies 83km from Fethiye and 29km from Kaş.The town sits in a natural bowl with the harbour at the centre and Kalkan Bay with its Islands to the South. To the North hills rise 1000m to a cool plateau and the charming community of Bezirgen: a few kilometres further North is the spectacular Toros mountain range.

Kalkan has its own small beach and there are numerous local diving and water sport centres. Just 20 minutes West by local bus (dolmus) is Patara with one of the World’s finest and longest unspoilt sandy beaches. The entire region is steeped in history and legend and there are many sites of historical interest and outstanding natural beauty. The clearly marked Lycian Way is well documented and mapped for walkers: its route passes through the Kalkan area. Boat trips depart from the harbour every day.

The town is laced with narrow and often steep streets. Tourists are well catered for with shops, bars and a wide variety of restaurants. By day you can sit by the harbour or one of the many café / bars and watch the world go by. Alternatively just relax by your poolside until the evening when the magic of Kalkan comes to life. The town takes on a new character with street lights and music. With so much choice you cannot fail to find entertainment and cuisine to suit your taste.
